Henriëtte Hilda Bosmans (born December 6, 1895 in Amsterdam ; † July 2, 1952 there ) was a Dutch composer .

biography

Henriëtte Bosmans was the daughter of Henri Bosmans, a cellist in the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and the pianist Sara Benedicts .

In 1914 she began to compose her own piano pieces and soon made a name for herself. In 1919 her first violin sonata was performed in public. She wrote especially chamber music and studied orchestral music with Cornelis Dopper , at the same time she mainly composed works for the cello . From 1922 to 1929 Bosmans was in a relationship with the nine years younger cellist and later conductor Frieda Belinfante , to whom she dedicated her second cello concerto.

From 1927 to 1930 she took lessons from Willem Pijper . In 1934 she got engaged to the violinist Francis Koene , with whom she also played. With the beginning of the German occupation in 1941, Bosmans was banned from working and performing because of her Jewish origin. During this time she maintained close correspondence with Benjamin Britten . In 1952, Bosmans died of stomach cancer .

Among her compositions are u. a. Orchestral works, concerts, songs, chamber, cello and piano music.
