Henri Baudrillart

Henri Joseph Léon Baudrillart (born November 28, 1821 in Paris , † January 24, 1892 ibid) was a French economist and journalist.

Life

Baudrillart studied at the Collège Bourbon and was awarded the honorary prize for philosophy there in 1841 for his publication "Discours sur Voltaire " .

After completing his studies, Baudrillart worked as a journalist; mostly for magazines such as Revue des Deux Mondes , Journal des Débats , etc. a. In 1845 he was appointed to the chair of political economy at the Collège de France . In the same year his work “ Jean Bodin et son temps” was awarded the Prix ​​Monthyon by the Académie française . In the following year he founded the Société démocratique des libres penseurs with Jules Barni and Jules Simon .

In 1855 Baudrillart took over the management of the cycling campaign of the Journal des économistes and did not give up this office until 1864. Later, between 1868 and 1869, he also directed the magazine Le Constitutionnel .

In 1863 Baudrillart became a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques and in 1881 he took a lectureship at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées .

Cardinal Alfred Baudrillart was his son.
