The Revue des Deux Mondes (abbreviation: RDDM , in German roughly: Report from two worlds ) is the oldest cultural magazine in Europe that still exists . It was founded by Prosper Mauroy and Pierre de Ségur-Dupeyron and has been published since August 1, 1829. The name of the magazine is derived from its self-image as a cultural, economic and political bridge between France and the United States . It takes a moderate, liberal - conservative political position.
history
Over time, the Revue des Deux Mondes has been a platform for many important personalities. Among others, George Sand , Félix Ravaisson , Charles Baudelaire , Leo Tolstoi , Stendhal , Alfred de Musset , Gérard de Nerval , Albert de Broglie , Victor Hugo , Guy de Maupassant , Hippolyte Taine , Ernest Renan , Alexis de Tocqueville , Heinrich Heine , Gabriele have published D'Annunzio , Maurice Barrès , Anton Chekhov , Joseph Kessel , Somerset Maugham , François Mauriac , Auguste Barchou de Penhoën and Jean Baptiste Gustave Planche in the Revue des Deux Mondes . In 1853 the French version of Heine's Die Götter im Exil appeared here as Les Dieux en Exil .
The magazine changed its name several times:
- 1829–1945: La Revue des Deux Mondes
- 1946–1956: Hommes et Mondes
- 1957–1971: La Revue des Deux Mondes
- 1972–1982: La Nouvelle Revue des Deux Mondes
- since 1982: La Revue des Deux Mondes
In 1991 the magazine was bought by the French entrepreneur and millionaire Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière.
The paper became known to a wide audience in German-speaking countries during the French presidential election campaign in 2017 , when the public prosecutor's office opened an investigation into the conservative candidate François Fillon , who was suspected of employing his wife Penelope during his time as a member of parliament and of misappropriating public funds in the process . The editorial offices of the Revue des Deux Mondes were also searched by the police because it was suspected that its publisher Ladreit had paid Penelope Fillon 100,000 euros on the basis of a bogus employment relationship.
The number of subscribers was given in 2008 with 5000 with a circulation of 8000 copies; In 2017 it was less than 10,000 pieces per month.
