Henri Guiter

Henri Guiter (born June 14, 1909 in Céret , † April 15, 1994 in Perpignan ) was a French Romance studies and Catalan studies .

life and work

Guiter passed the Agrégation in 1931 and completed his habilitation twice, in 1939 in physics, in 1942 in Lettres with the two theses Étude de linguistique historique du dialecte minorquin (Montpellier 1943) and Grammaire de la langue du Llibre d'Ave Maria de Ramon Llull (Montpellier 1943) . He was a high school teacher for physics in Perpignan , then a university teacher for Romance philology there. Until 1978 he held the chair for Romance linguistics at the University of Montpellier (as the successor to Jean Bourciez ) .

From 1936 to 1939 Guiter worked for the magazine Nostra Terra (at the side of Jean Amade, 1878-1949, Josep-Sebastià Pons, 1886-1962, Alphonse Mias, 1903-1950, and Gumersind Gomila, 1905-1970). Member of the editorial board of the book series Quantitative Linguistics Volume 1, 1978ff.
