Henri Jacob Victor Sody (born August 31, 1892 in The Hague ; † January 16, 1959 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch biologist who did research mainly in what is now Indonesia .

Sody studied Indian Landbouwkunde (Indian crop science ) in Wageningen between 1913 and 1917 and conducted research in the Dutch East Indies from 1918 to 1926 and again from 1927 to 1934 , especially in the field of mammals and ornithology . Sody described various animal species during his time in Asia, such as the Sumatran flying squirrel from the genus Hylopetes or the Peleng tarsier .

His private zoological collection was on permanent loan to the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden during his lifetime ; his widow donated the collection to the museum.

Max Bartels junior (1902-1943) named the Sody tree rat ( Rattus sodyi , today Kadarsanomys sodyi ) after him .
