Henri Lhote (December 1967)

Henri Lhote (* 1903 ; † 1991 ) was a French writer , explorer , ethnographer and "expert on prehistoric cave art". He is credited with discovering “important cave paintings”, named as the montage of 800 or more great works of primitive art in inaccessible regions on the edge of the Sahara desert . Lhote is considered a representative of pre-astronautics (paleo- SETI ) and prehistoric art. In this regard, portraits of human-like figures are interpreted.

Research in the Oued Djerat

In 1934 the French officer Brenans took a rest with his military troops in the Wadi des Oued Djerat and discovered rock carvings in this - today completely barren area - which indicated a period of high fertility. There were portraits of large animals in the rock valley, for example elephants, giraffes, rhinos, crocodiles and hippos. Lhote, a student of the French prehistoric and Catholic priest Henri Breuil (founder of research into rock and cave art and the basis for the chronology of the Paleolithic ), was in Algeria at the same time and heard about the discovery. He met Brenans at Djanet, and after his briefing on the explorations, he embarked on a broad field research project. In the process he discovered more than 800 portraits, many of which were later captured by painters and photographers. Many of the pictures received a lot of attention in 1957 and 1958 on the occasion of an exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris . André Malraux was full of praise for speaking of a clearly structured exhibition that would go down in history.

The most important sites outside of Tassili n'Ajjer are in Niger . These are the rock valleys Anakom and Tankom on the eastern edge of the Aïr , and Tezirzait on the northeast edge of the Adrar Tamgak , Iwelen and Dabous .

Henri Lhote then undertook further expeditions before succumbing to the CNRS went and head of the Department Prehistoric Art of also in Paris based Musée de l'Homme took over.

Pre-astronautical elements

After extensive research, Lhote hypothesized that the humanoid drawings represent aliens . Alien intelligences would have visited the earth a long time ago and decisively influenced the development of mankind. Because of their high technical superiority, these astronauts were considered gods by primitive man. The tabloids gave this a lot of attention. The book, The Search for the Tassili Frescoes: The story of the prehistoric rock paintings of the Sahara (first published in France in 1958, in 1959 then in England) mentions the Jabbaren , a figure of the dimension of a Martian -Gottes. According to the Encyclopædia Britannica , Lhote discovered dance scenes as early as 1956, dating from around 6000 to 4000 BC. Should be attributed to BC. The mass media gave the close encounter of the third kind sufficient reading material.
