Marie-François-Henri de Franquetot, duc de Coigny (born March 28, 1737 in Paris , † May 19, 1821 there ) was Marshal of France .

Life

Henri de Franquetot was the son of Jean Marquis de Coigny (* 1702). This died in 1748 died in a duel. His grandfather, the Duke of Coigny (1670–1759), handed over the management of his property to him in 1756.

Henri de Franquetot joined the Musketeers at the age of 15 . He took part in the Seven Years' War as a cavalry general. He fought in the Battle of Hastenbeck , the Battle of Minden and the Battle of Krefeld . From 1771 to 1783 he was Colonel général der Dragoons , an office that his grandfather had already held. From 1772 he was governor of Cambrai . After the outbreak of the French Revolution he fought in the army of the emigrants . He later entered the Portuguese service. After the fall of Emperor Napoleon he returned to France and became a peer and in 1816 Marshal of France.
