Henri de Wendel

Henri Paul François de Wendel (born March 24, 1844 in Hayange ; † October 10, 1906 Vaugien Castle , St. Remy les Chevreuse ) was an industrialist and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Henri de Wendel came from the de Wendel industrial dynasty . His nephew Charles de Wendel was also a member of the Reichstag. Henri de Wendel became an engineer (diploma from the école centrale in Paris). After the annexation of Lorraine, the company had to be divided, as large parts were still on French territory. Henri took over the ironworks in Hayange and fought off several takeover attempts from the Reich. During this time, de Wendel also adopted a British steelmaking process. By adopting this Thomas process , the company became important and Lorraine became an important steel district.

From 1872 he was married to Bertha Henrietta Marie Hélène Corbel von Vaulserre, with whom he had three sons.

From 1881 to 1890 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen 13 ( Bolchen , Diedenhofen ). He was a member of the Alsace-Lorraine Protest Party.
