The Henriettenpark in Leipzig is a green space in the Lindenau district that was created on an industrial wasteland.

Location and description

Henriettenpark extends in a south-west-north-east direction between the buildings on Lütznerstrasse and Endersstrasse and extends from Henriettenstrasse to the buildings on GutsMuthsstrasse. This corresponds to an approximate length of 330 meters. The greatest width is 55 meters. The area of the park is about 1.5 hectares . There are entrances from Lützner, Endersstrasse and Henriettenstrasse.

A straight main path runs through the entire length of the complex, accompanied by a curved longitudinal path and cut by cross paths. The main path is paved and structured by concrete elements, which are intended to be reminiscent of the earlier tracks here.

Trees and bushes form groups or stand as an avenue along the main path. In the official city map of Leipzig, around 240 trees are drawn in the park. In the cited parks and gardens leaders these different about twenty tree species spread, the ball maple, a cultivated form of Spitz maple , and various species of oak dominate.

Opposite the entrance from Lützner Straße there is a gravel bed with moisture-tolerant grasses and shrubs, in which a small pond can form when there is heavy rainfall. In the north-eastern third there are play facilities for children. A wide flight of stairs leads to the raised north corner with a pavilion. The height difference to the path along the northwest side is designed with retaining walls made of wire ballast boxes.

history

Former track plan for the Henriettenpark area
The siding to today's Henriettenpark, crossing Endersstrasse (1989)

The industrial operations on the south side of Lützner Strasse, including the Langhammer und Söhne wallpaper factory founded in 1873 , had a rail connection to the Plagwitz station on their back . With a public charging point , the connection was one of the 37 industrial connections that industrial pioneer Carl Heine had built. After production was stopped in 1990, the siding fell into disrepair.

According to a concept of the municipal office for green areas, a green area with a playground was built in this area from 1998 to 2005, which in 2003 was named "Henriettenpark" after the adjacent street. In the competition for the Euro Cities Award 2007 in Porto, the project took second place. The association for relatives and friends of mentally ill people wege e. V.
