The Leipzig-Plagwitz Industriebahnhof station was a freight station in the Plagwitz district of Leipzig . The station last served as a destination and shunting yard for the numerous industrial companies in Leipzig-Plagwitz and Leipzig- Lindenau . Until 1920 it was also used for passenger traffic in the direction of Gaschwitz and Hof.

history

Plagwitz-Lindenau station, Royal Saxon State Railroad, around 1890

The Leipzig industrial pioneer Carl Heine had a total of 37 industrial connections laid in Plagwitz on the basis of a track connection contract, starting from the Prussian Zeitz train station , later Plagwitz-Lindenau, and built three public charging points for companies without a track connection. The connections and charging points were connected to the station with 15 industrial and connecting railways. On September 1, 1879, when the Gaschwitz Railway went into operation, Plagwitz was also connected to the Royal Saxon Railway Network. The Saxon State Railway built a large freight yard and a small reception building for passenger traffic opposite the Prussian Plagwitz-Lindenau station. Due to the Saxon-Prussian railway war, meticulously separated networks of the Prussian State Railways and the Royal Saxon State Railways were created in Plagwitz and Leipzig Central Station . The station served as a transfer station to the Prussian railway administration for goods traffic from or to the south and west. In 1899, Plagwitz-Lindenau was the largest freight yard in Leipzig with an annual turnover of 739,665 tons. On the Saxon side in 1916, including the loading stations, there were 86 civil servants, workers, point attendants, train drivers and helpers alone.

After the establishment of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1920, the Prussian and Saxon train stations were merged and passenger traffic in the Saxon train station was discontinued. The Saxon part of the Plagwitz-Lindenau station was named Plagwitz-Lindenau Saxon State Station from July 1, 1911 to October 1920, and the Plagwitz-Lindenau industrial station until 1922 . Since June 1, 1922 it has been called Leipzig-Plagwitz Industriebahnhof .

Until the beginning of the 1990s, the roughly 1,600-meter-long and 25-hectare freight station was used to handle goods for the Plagwitz-Lindenau industrial area. A total of 20 connecting tracks (PI to PXX) served a large number of sidings numbered A1 to A100. As a hub station , it was equipped with a drainage mountain, shunting tracks, and parking and loading tracks. The railway depot had two locomotive sheds, one in the former Saxon and one in the former Prussian part of the station, of which the former Prussian now houses the railway museum Bayerischer Bahnhof zu Leipzig .

present

With the collapse of industry in the west of Leipzig, the freight station lost its function. As part of the urban development, the site is to be redesigned into an urban green corridor with recreational and leisure opportunities. Residential use of former railway buildings is also planned. The former connecting railways have been partially converted into green bike and footpaths, and parks have been created on the areas of the loading points.
