Wallpaper factory

history

The Leipzig wallpaper factory Langhammer and Sons was founded in 1873 by Robert and Adolf Langhammer and, under its director Emil Zilling, was the second largest wallpaper factory in Germany. Wallpaper was also produced here after the Second World War: until 1990, the factory belonged to VEB Packaging Combine in Leipzig , after which place mats were made for Lufthansa at the same location under the name Leipziger Tapeten GmbH until August 2006 . After the company's insolvency, the old Wilhelminian-era factory with its eight hall buildings and office buildings in the middle of the west of Leipzig was sold by the Treuhandanstalt to the current private owners and the renovation of the first gallery and studio rooms and the old works canteen began. The wallpaper factory was opened in April 2007 with the Tapetenwerkfest 1.0 .

Current usage

Currently, the historic factory from the founding period is gradually being expanded with emphasis on the old industrial architecture in order to create space for creative people. The wallpaper factory currently offers space for artists, designers, architects, for creative handicrafts such as a longboard workshop, or for new work concepts such as a coworking space.
