Henrik Groth
Henrik Johan Florentz Groth (born October 11, 1903 in Christiania , † August 10, 1983 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian publisher and essayist . He was the managing director of the publishing house Cappelen (JW Cappelens Forlag) from 1947 to 1973, and is considered alongside Harald Grieg as the leading Norwegian publisher in the 20th century. He was chairman of the Norwegian Publishers Association, chairman of the Norwegian Booksellers Association and chairman of the Northern Association . As an essayist, he advocated a liberal, humanist worldview with conservative elements.
He was the son of the bank director Halfdan Emil Groth (1874-1929) and Valborg Haagaas (1879-1960), and nephew of the educator Theodor Haagaas . The Groth family comes from the organist in Drammen Frederik Christian Groth, who immigrated from Germany to Norway around 1750. Henrik Groth was married in 1929 to Aasta Marie Jentoft (1900–1979), daughter of the shipowner Ove Daniel Jentoft.
Honors
He received the Fritt Ord Prize in 1977 and the Riksmålsforbundet Literature Prize in 1980.
