Henrique Pereira Rosa [ ẽˈɾikɨ pɨ'ɾɐi̯ɾɐ ˈɾɔzɐ ] (born January 18, 1946 - May 15, 2013 ) was President of Guinea-Bissau from 2003 to 2005 .

Life

Rosa was President of the Election Commission in the 1994 presidential election, in which João Bernardo Vieira was re-elected for the third time.

The military government that was in office after the overthrow of President Kumba Ialá on September 14, 2003 under the chairmanship of Veríssimo Correia Seabra , installed Rosa on September 28, 2003 as transitional president. Rosa was previously a businessman and initially unwilling to accept the position.

Free parliamentary elections were held on March 28, 2004 and presidential elections on June 19, 2005, in which the former heads of state Ialá, Sanhá and Vieira participated. Sanhá was the winner in the first ballot, in the second ballot Sanhá was defeated by Viera on July 24, 2005.

The handover from Rosa to Viera took place on October 1, 2005.
