Henry-Claudius Forestier
Henry-Claudius Forestier (born February 25, 1874 in Chêne-Bougeries , † May 21, 1922 in Meyrin ) was a Swiss painter , caricaturist and poster artist .
Life
Born as the son of Louis Forestier and Joséphine b. Board, he married Adelina Corfu. From 1887 to 1891 Forestier studied at the École des Arts Industriels in Geneva in the woodcut class of Alfred Martin. His classmates were Jules Fontanez and Édouard Vallet .
He spent the period from 1891 to 1896 in Paris , where he made woodcuts in the workshop of Julien Tinayre (1859–1923) and for Louis Dunki (1856–1915). Forestier provided illustrations for magazines and was mainly concerned with the woodcut. He returned to Geneva in 1896, where he designed decorations for the 1896 national exhibition. Forestier published caricatures in the satirical magazines Sapajou and Passe-Partout and illustrated several books.
Forestier was one of the first Swiss poster artists. From 1898 onwards he created a large number of posters for the Société d'affiches artistiques.
From 1905 he devoted himself to painting . In 1914 he designed the costumes for the centenary of Geneva joining the Swiss Confederation .
