Henry Vivian Brandon, Baron Brandon of Oakbrook PC , MC (born June 3, 1920 , † March 24, 1999 in Stratton , Cornwall ) was a British judge and from 1981 until his death in 1999 a member of the House of Lords .

life and career

Brandon was born in June 1920 to Captain Vivian Ronald Brandon CBE RN, of Kensington , London and his wife Joan Elizabeth Maud Simpson. He studied at Winchester College and after his studies served as an officer in the British Army with the Royal Artillery from 1939 to 1945, where he was awarded the Military Cross .

He worked as a licensed attorney at the Admiralty Division. In 1946, he was by the Bar Association Inner Temple as a Barrister -at-law. He was a member of the Bar Council from 1951 to 1953. In 1961 he became crown attorney . From 1961 to 1966 he was a member of Lloyd’s group of referees in salvage cases. From 1963 to 1966 he was a member of the Wreck Commissioners group. On his appointment as a judge of the High Court of Justice, he was named a Knight Bachelor . From 1966 to 1971 he was with the Probate Admiralty and Divorce Division and from 1971 to 1978 at the Family Division and Admiralty Court. From 1977 to 1978 he was a judge of the Commercial Court. Brandon became a member of the Privy Council in 1978 and was the youngest Lord Justice of Appeal of the 20th century between 1978 and 1981.

Membership in the House of Lords

On September 24, 1981, he was appointed Lord of Appeal in Ordinary and Life Peer . He thus belonged to the House of Lords . He was named Baron Brandon of Oakbrook, of Hammersmith in Greater London. No requests to speak from him are listed in the Hansard.

In 1991 he resigned as Lord of Appeal.

Family and death

Brandon married Jeanette Rosemary Janvrin, the first daughter of Julian Vivian Breeze Janvrin, on December 28, 1955. They had four children. Henry Brandon died in March 1999 at the age of 78.
