Henry Brown Floyd MacFarland (born February 11, 1861 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † October 14, 1921 ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1909 he served as President of the Board of Commissioners as Mayor of the federal capital Washington, DC

Life

Little information is available about Henry MacFarland. He was born in Philadelphia and later worked as a newspaper correspondent. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . He lived at least temporarily in Washington DC. In 1900 he became a member of the three-person Board of Commissioners that governed the city of Washington. Within this group he was appointed chairman in 1901. In this capacity he practically exercised the office of mayor, even if this title was not officially used between 1871 and 1975. He held this post between 1901 and 1909. During his term of office, the funeral ceremonies for the murdered President William McKinley fall . After the end of his time as head of the Board of Commissioners , his track is lost.
