The sources on John Wright are very poor. There are even two versions of the spelling of his surname: In addition to Wright, he is sometimes referred to as Wight . What is certain is that he lived in Washington DC at least for a time. In 1897 he became a member of the three-person Board of Commissioners that ruled the federal capital. Within this group he was appointed chairman in 1898. In this capacity he practically exercised the office of mayor, even if this title was not officially used between 1871 and 1975. He held this office between 1898 and 1900. After that, his trace is lost again.
