Henry Eccles (composer)

Henry Eccles the Younger (* between 1675 and 1685 in London , † between 1735 and 1745 probably in Paris ) was an English violinist and composer.

Henry Eccles, probably a brother of the composer John Eccles , was born in England. Nothing is known about his early life, the first mention being made in 1705 when he gave a benefit concert and through the publication of his "Preludes and Voluntaries". In 1713 he traveled to France with the Duke d'Aumont, where he lived from then on. From 1720 at the latest he lived in Paris, where he joined the Vingt-quatre Violons du Roy at the French court under Louis XV. belonged to. He is often confused with his uncle Henry Eccles of the same name , who was a member of King's Private Music .

He probably wrote a sonata in G minor for cello and figured bass . An arrangement of this sonata for double bass and piano is a work that is often played in musical training.
