Henry Laskau
Henry Laskau (actually Helmut Laskau; born September 12, 1916 in Berlin ; † May 7, 2000 in Coconut Creek ) was an American walker of German origin.
In 1939 he fled National Socialist Germany after being locked up in a labor camp for three months as a Jew .
In 1948 he was disqualified at the Olympic Games in London in the preliminary round of 10,000 meters. In 1951 he won this discipline at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires .
At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was again disqualified in the 10,000 m walk in the preliminary round. 1956 was twelfth in the 20 km walk at the Olympic Games in Melbourne .
He was eleven times US champion in 3000 meters or two-mile walking (1948-1958) and five times in walking 20 km (1951-1955). In 1952 he set his personal 20 km best time of 1:37:04 h. Ten times he won the national title in walking over a mile in the hall .
He was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1997 .
