Henry Wald Bettmann

Dr. Henry Wald Bettmann (born January 14, 1868 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † December 5, 1935 there ) was an American chess composer .

Chess composition

Bettmann was the brother of the chess composer Edgar Bettmann and the cousin of the chess composer Jacob Bettmann. His most reprinted composition is the Babson Task in Selbstmatt . More than 150 of his compositions have appeared in newspapers, magazines and specialist books.

Private

Bettmann was a physicist and a nationally known doctor for internal medicine . He was a professor of medicine and a faculty member in the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati . He published his medical research results in several articles. As the son of the Jewish parents Bernhard (1846–1915) and Tillie Bettmann, he was the second oldest of seven siblings.

He died late Thursday evening, December 5, 1935, of a heart attack that befell him at his home in Vernon Manor. He left two children in addition to his wife.
