Henry Woods (* 1764 in Bedford , Bedford County , Province of Pennsylvania , † 1826 there ) was an American politician . Between 1799 and 1803 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Woods was the younger brother of Congressman John Woods (1761-1816). Neither the exact date of his birth nor his death are known. He attended the public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1792, he began to work in Bedford in this profession. Politically, he became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s .

In the congressional elections of 1798 Woods was elected in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania to the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he succeeded David Bard on March 4, 1799 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1803 . During this time, the new federal capital Washington, DC was moved into in 1800 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Woods worked in the real estate business as a land speculator. He died in his hometown of Bedford in 1826.
