Henryk Balk

Henryk Balk (born August 14, 1901 in Lwów ; † July 1941 there ) was a Polish poet and literary critic .

Life

Balk attended school in Lwów and graduated from high school in 1917 . He then studied at the Philosophical Faculty of Jan Kasimir University and received his doctorate in 1925 with the thesis Z badań nad wyobraźnią artystyczną Stanisława Wyspiańskiego . He made his debut as a poet with the poem Wiosna , which appeared in the Wiek Nowy newspaper in 1923 . From 1924 to 1930 he wrote articles and reviews for Gazeta Lwowska and Gazeta Poranna with interruptions. After receiving his doctorate, he taught at Lviv grammar schools from 1925. He also published poems in the 1930s in the magazines Lwowskie Wiadomości Muzyczne i Literackie, Sygnały and Droga . During the Second World War he stayed in Lwów after the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland . After the Wehrmacht marched into Lwów, he committed suicide in July 1941.
