The Henschel DH 240 locomotive is a two-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was built by the Henschel works . It was intended for use in the shunting service. The wheel arrangement of the Henschel DH 240 is B. The locomotive is the smallest of the so-called second generation of diesel-hydraulic Henschel locomotives. They are also known as transition series or Buckel-Henschel . The locomotives of this series were driven by a coupling rod . The engine output is 240 hp.
The Henschel DH 240 was built in 14 copies between 1952 and 1957. Three of them went to Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG, Remscheid . The other eleven locomotives were also delivered to customers in Germany.
The locomotive with the serial number 29201 went to Hüttenwerke Huckingen AG, Grillo Funke plant in 1957. Later it was used as locomotive 259 at the Eisenbahn und Häfen GmbH and is now running as locomotive 9 at the Association for the Preservation of the Hespertalbahn e. V. in Essen-Kupferdreh.

Whereabouts
The whereabouts of ten of the 14 DH 240s built are known. One was verifiably scrapped. Five locomotives are in the z. Some of them have been sold outside of Europe.
