The Henschel D 600 is a steam locomotive built by Henschel & Sohn in Kassel .
The type designation "D 600" indicates that it is a locomotive with the wheel order "D" (four coupled axles ) with a traction power of approx. 600 hp . The D 600 is a further development of the "Essen" type from the late 1930s. After the Second World War, from 1946 to 1954, Henschel produced around 50 locomotives of this type.
The locomotive was designed for local use (low top speed) and in Germany was only supplied to private railways (mainly works and mine connection railways ). None of the locomotives made it to the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
