The Henschel EA 800 is an electric locomotive built by Henschel in four copies. It is equipped for catenary and battery operation. The locomotives built in 1966 were procured by Rheinstahl-Bergbau AG for the newly electrified network of the Prosper collieries and classified as E 5 to E 8 . They have an hourly output of 540 kilowatts. The type designation is taken from the corresponding HP performance class.
When Ruhrkohle AG was founded, the locomotives went to RAG - Ruhrkohle AG in 1970 . They have been redrawn as E 455 to E 458 . In 1983 they were redrawn as 281 to 284. Three locomotives were sold to the Bodensee-Toggenburg-Bahn (BT) in Switzerland in 1995 and the 281 and 283 were put into operation as Eea 3/3 31 and 32. There they were still in operation in 2011, meanwhile as SOB 936 031 and 032. Locomotive 936 032 has meanwhile been decommissioned (before 2016) and broken up in Kaiseraugst.
The EA 800 was created in a kind of modular system. The other locomotives in this program are the two-axle EA 500 with 360 kilowatts and the four-axle EA 1000 bogie locomotive with 540 kilowatts of power.
The driver's cab is located between the lower stems of different lengths, these are beveled at the top of the vehicle. The driver's cab was constructed so low that it remained within the UIC profile when the pantograph was lowered . Originally the locomotives were green, at the SOB the locomotives were painted red, for the 936 032 it was in 2003.
