The Henschel EA 500 is an electric locomotive built in two copies. It is equipped for catenary and battery operation. The two locomotives built in 1966 were procured by Rheinstahl-Bergbau AG for the newly electrified network of the Prosper collieries and classified as E 9 and E 10 . They have an hourly output of 360 kilowatts. The type designation is taken from the corresponding HP performance class.

The EA 500 was created in a kind of modular system. The other locomotives in this program are the three-axle EA 800 with 540 kilowatts and the four-axle bogie locomotive EA 1000 with 540 kilowatts of power.

When Ruhrkohle AG was founded in 1970, the locomotives went to RAG - Ruhrkohle AG, Zechenbahn- und Hafenbetriebe Ruhr-Mitte . They have been redrawn as E 489 and E 490 . The E 489 had an accident in 1972 and was scrapped in 1977. The remaining locomotive was renamed 290 in 1983 and parked in 1997. It went to the Westphalian Industrial Museum in 1999 and is located on the grounds of the Henrichshütte in Hattingen .
