Coll (mythology)

Coll fab Collfrewi [ koːɬ vaːb koɬ'vrewi ] is the name of a legendary figure from Welsh mythology .

In the Trioedd Ynys Prydein ("The Triads of the Isle of Britain") from the 13th century, Coll fab Collfrewi is named as one of the "three most powerful swineherd in Britain ". In his care is the magical sow Henwen [ 'henwen ], whom he follows on its journey from Cornwall through Gwent and Dyfed to Gwynedd . According to the legend, she brings wheat, barley and bees to the south of Wales . In the north, however, she gives birth to a wolf, an eagle and a cat-like monster.

The other two powerful swineherd of the trioedd are Pryderi fab Pwyll Pen Annwfn and Drystan fab Tallwch .
