Herbert Arnould Olivier

Herbert Arnould Olivier (born September 9, 1861 in Battle (East Sussex) , † March 2, 1952 on Hayling Island , Hampshire) was a portrait and landscape painter in London.

family

His parents were Reverend Henry Arnold Olivier and Anne Elizabeth Hardcastle Arnould. The father was a principal in Poulshot , Wiltshire .

In 1903 he married Margaret Barclay Peat, the daughter of Sir William Peat .

His nephew was the actor Laurence Olivier .

Act

From 1881 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts , where he won the Creswick Prize in 1882 .

He taught at the Bombay School of Art . After accompanying the Duke of Connaught to Kashmir in 1884, the following year he exhibited 66 pictures from their trip to the Fine Art Society . In 1887 he was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists .

In 1908 he had an exhibition in the Grafton Galleries . In 1917 he became an Official War Artist .
