The parish of Hayling Island is in south Hampshire , England, between Portsmouth in the west and Chichester in the east. The island, which belongs to Borough Havant , is divided into the two wards Hayling East and Hayling West. The largest settlement on the island is called Mengham.
A temple belonging to the Noviomagus Regnorum stood here as early as the 2nd century .
Today the East Hayling Light Railway and an amusement park are located on the island. In addition, sailing competitions take place regularly off the island, including the 470 European sailing championship in 1996 .
A partnership has existed with the French municipality of Gorron in the Mayenne department since 2000.
