William Frank Southall (born July 2, 1904 in Wandsworth , † April 5, 1964 in Hayling Island ) was a British cyclist .

Frank Southall drove his first race at the age of 17. He became one of Britain's preeminent and versatile cyclists in the 1920s and 1930s. Four times in a row he won the title “ British Best All-Rounder ”, an annual ranking that was established in 1930 by Cycling magazine . Cyclists who had participated in certain individual time trials over the distances of 50 miles, 100 miles and 12 hours were included in the evaluation . Southall set several national records in this competition, in which an official title was awarded.

In 1928 Southall started at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam and won two silver medals, in the individual road race and in the team competition. Four years later he took part in the Olympic Games again. In Los Angeles , he finished fourth in the road race, the team finished sixth. He also started in the team pursuit on the track and won the bronze medal together with Ernest Johnson , William Harvell and Charles Holland . Frank Southall drove several times at the UCI Road World Championships ; At the UCI Road World Championships in Milan in 1926 , he finished eleventh in the amateur road race and in 1931 he was seventh in Copenhagen .

In 1934 he became a professional driver with the declared aim of improving as many British time trial records as possible.

In 1938 Frank Southall, a trained plasterer , drove as a professional for the Hercules Cycle and Motor Company . After a year he ended his active sporting career, took a job in sales at Hercules and also looked after female cyclists for the company, including the record-breaking cyclist Eileen Sheridan .

In 1932 Southall was included in the Golden Book of Cycling .
