Herbert Bischoff (union official)

Herbert Bischoff (* 12. August 1931 in Sachsenbrunn , Hildburghausen district) is a former German FDGB - functionary . He was chairman of the central board of the art union in the FDGB.

Life

Bischoff, the son of a working class family, attended elementary and high school. He then completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk at the City Council of Eisfeld (Thuringia) and then worked in this profession. In 1948 he became a member of the FDJ , in 1949 he joined the SED .

In 1951/52 he worked as a teacher at the FDGB state school in Jena-Lobeda , then in 1952 as a teacher at the central trade school in Grünheide (Mark) . In 1953 he became a research assistant in the library of the trade union college "Fritz Heckert" in Bernau near Berlin . From 1953 to 1961 he worked as a research assistant, teacher and senior assistant at the trade union college. Between 1958 and 1962 he completed a distance learning course with a degree in cultural studies. 1962/63 he was a research assistant, then from 1963 to 1967 director of the institute and from 1968 to 1970 lecturer and deputy section head at the trade union university. In October 1967, Bischoff was with a thesis on the Ruhr Festival at the Institute of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of the SED to Dr. phil. PhD.

In January 1971, Bischoff became first deputy, in December 1974 acting chairman of the art union. From 1975 to 1989 he was chairman of the art union in the FDGB.

From 1972 to 1989 he was also a member of the federal executive committee of the FDGB, a member of the presidium of the association of theater professionals and vice-president of the international federation of unions for workers in film, radio and television.
