Herbert Häfner

Herbert Häfner (born January 15, 1904 in Rotterode , † October 23, 1954 in Bösingfeld ) was a German painter.

Life

Herbert Häfner studied in Berlin at the University of Fine Arts and left around a hundred oil paintings and just as many graphics. Stylistically, he orientated himself on the painting of the idealism of the late 19th century, especially on Hans von Marées . In 1937, Häfner was banned from working by the National Socialists because of “Jewish infiltration” because he was married to the Jewish painter Ilse Häfner-Mode . He was expelled from the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts . He had to return the Rome Prize awarded in 1934. After the war he died lonely.
