Herbert Helmert
Herbert Helmert (born July 21, 1924 in Dresden , † November 27, 1997 in Munich ) was a German painter .
life and work
Helmert was born the son of a civil servant in Dresden and grew up in Meißen . At the age of 15 he began an apprenticeship as a porcelain painter in the Meissen porcelain factory , but began studying painting at the Dresden Art Academy at the age of 16 thanks to the recommendations of his teachers there . In Dresden he met his future wife, the actress Erika Stamer, with whom he moved to Berlin in 1944 . In 1951 he continued his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. He attended Max Kaus's class and was Karl Schmidt-Rottluff's master student until 1954 .
Since 1965 he lived very withdrawn in Munich. From 1965 to 1968, numerous stays in France shaped his artistic development.
He died on November 27, 1997.
