Herbert Kuhner

Herbert ("Harry") Kuhner (born March 29, 1935 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer and translator .

Life

Kuhner emigrated with his parents to the United States of America in 1939 , where he graduated from Columbia University . In 1963 he returned to Vienna, where he still works as a writer and translator today and has also participated in the Austrian Literature Forum.

The Austrian Federal President has given him the professional title of Professor .

With his translations, Herbert Kuhner particularly acted as an “ambassador” for the literatures of the Austrian ethnic groups and made them accessible to the English-speaking audience. He has also presented an anthology of Austrian poetry after 1945 for the US publisher Schocken Books.
