Herbert Lori

Herbert Lori (born April 7,  1934 - † June 26, 2015 ) was a German basketball coach and player.

Life

Lori played for the national basketball team of the German Democratic Republic in the 1950s . From 1960 he worked as a trainer and looked after the men's team of the ASK Vorwärts Halle (later ASK Vorwärts Leipzig), then from 1970 to 1985 the HSG KMU Leipzig. Lori, who professionally works as a university lecturer, led his teams to eleven GDR championship titles, and in the 1967/68 season ASK Vorwärts Leipzig reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup under Lori's leadership as coach . There his team was eliminated against Slavia Prague . He was a member of the coaching council of the GDR basketball association.

After the end of the GDR, Lori became a member of the teaching and coaching committee of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and was represented on the board of the Basketball Association of Saxony . In December 2007 he was honored for his voluntary work as part of the DBB's “Teamwork” initiative.

Lori was an honorary member of USC Leipzig and was described as an "outstanding personality in Saxon basketball".
