from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herbert Meyer (born May 14, 1910 , † 1942 in Berlin-Moabit ) was a German worker, resistance fighter and member of the Baum group . He was murdered in custody in prison in Berlin-Moabit in 1942 .

Life and activity

“He was the older brother of Gerhard Meyer . From 1916 to 1926 he attended elementary school and secondary school. He trained as a tailor and was then a buyer in his father's shop. In April 1940 he was committed to forced labor at the Warnicke & Böhm paint factory in Weißensee as a transport worker and then as a locksmith at Markus-Metallbau in Kolonnenstrasse, Berlin-Schöneberg.

Herbert Meyer was not politically organized, but through his brother Gerhard and his wife Rita he became familiar with the illegal communist youth work. In December 1935, when he had the opportunity to get to know Herbert Baum , he joined the organized anti-fascist resistance movement and, until his arrest, participated in various ways in the fight against Hitler's fascism and against the war. Herbert Meyer distinguished himself through tireless illegal detailed work. ”( Margot Pikarski : Youth in the Berlin Resistance. Herbert Baum and comrades in arms .)
