Herbert Sührig

Herbert Sührig (born April 15, 1900 in Osterode am Harz ; † August 12, 1959 in Hamburg ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hanoverian Landtag .

Life

Sührig attended elementary school and began an apprenticeship as a Zieseleur . He broke this off because of the outbreak of the First World War . He worked in the metal industry and in 1917 became a member of the German Metalworkers' Association in Hanover.

Sührig had been a member of the SPD since 1919. In 1928 he became union secretary in the German Metalworkers' Association. In 1933 all offices were dismissed. He was arrested and imprisoned in the Moringen concentration camp , but released there in 1933. In September 1934 he was arrested again for preparation for high treason and in August 1944. In November 1944 he was released from prison.

From April 1945 he resumed his work for the SPD. He became head of a political department at the district office in Osterode. Sührig was appointed a member of the Hanoverian Landtag from August 23, 1946 to October 29, 1946.
