Herbert Schmidt (Author)

Herbert Schmidt (born July 28, 1971 ) is an Austrian teacher , photographer and specialist author who writes about historical sword fighting .

Life

Herbert Schmidt is a trained prepress technician. Schmidt emigrated to Venezuela in 1994 and ran a plantation there, where he mainly grew citrus fruits. In 1999 he founded the sword fighting association "Ars Gladii" ( sword art ), which deals with the reconstruction of European martial arts using traditional fencing books . Schmidt teaches fighting with long and short swords in seminars across Europe. Among other things, he deals with the medieval and Renaissance buckler (Faustschild) , about which he wrote the non-fiction book The Book of the Buckler .

From 1999 to 2018 he photographed the knife calendar "Meisterstücke in Stahl", the most famous calendar for handcrafted knives in Central Europe. Schmidt was thus also one of the most famous knife photographers.

Schmidt has been researching reader-friendly design in schools since 2018.

Schmidt lives in Bregenz and works as a teacher at the Landesberufsschule Dornbirn 2.
