Herbert Vossmerbäumer

Herbert Vossmerbäumer , sometimes Herbert Vossmerbäumer , (born April 20, 1940 in Kiel ) is a German geologist and professor at the University of Würzburg .

Vossmerbäumer studied geology and palaeontology in Kiel and Münster, received his doctorate in Kiel in 1966 (attempt to reconstruct the educational conditions of the lower lias in Sweden) and was assistant in Würzburg from 1966, where he became a professor. 1985 to 1987 he was acting head of the Geological Institute

In 1982 he organized the annual meeting of the Geological Association and in 1986 that of the Geological Association and the German Geological Society (DGG) in Würzburg. From 1991 to 2004 he published the DGG magazine. From the mid-1980s he headed an interdisciplinary working group for the reform of the study of geosciences as part of the Alfred Wegener Society . He was chairman of the geoconference from 1988 to 1998.

Originally he was a sedimentologist. Among other things, he dealt with the wave limestone in Franconia and its cephalopods.

In 2004 he became a Knight of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques . He translated various French geoscientific books.
