biography

The poet Maria Henriette Bertha Thilo, who writes under the stage name Here Erdis, was born on September 25, 1872 in Jacobshagen as the daughter of Herrmann Ernst Julius Thilo, district court advisor to Jakobshagen, and Maria Louise Auguste Thilo. Around 1900 she and her future partner, the music student Richard Mondt at the time , moved to Switzerland to Oberbergen in the canton of Lucerne .

Maria Thilo took an active part in Richard Mondt's poetic work on his "Diademen" and made her own contributions (marked "Maria" in the printed edition). In just a few years she created a wealth of heartfelt poetry. Much found an adequate setting through Mondt. Musically very sensitive, she influenced and inspired his work.

In the chosen poet name Here Erdis, Greek and Germanic mythology are combined: Hera, the Greek goddess, Erda the ancient Wala of the north. The name embraces heaven and earth and at the same time symbolizes their work.

In 1927 the couple moved into a dilapidated house on the Rigihang near Weggis on Lake Lucerne, which was completely isolated and offered a magnificent view of the lake and the mountains, but had neither running water nor electricity.

Maria and Richard had a small fortune together, on the interest of which they intended to live, but soon they were living off the capital. Neither she nor her partner had a sufficient understanding of money matters or the ability to run a household. Extremely sensitive, sensitive and easily vulnerable in everyday life, weakened and malnourished by years of privation, Maria died on June 9, 1929 of a nervous breakdown.

Works

In the period from 1910 to 1927 an extensive work was created:

  • The rock in the diamond 3 books
  • From my mantle of my earth
  • Oasis of silence last poems
  • The eternal temporal - the temporally eternal Das Spruchwerk
  • From God's distant diamond

Except for a small volume of poetry made possible by a friend, “O high earth”, her work has remained unpublished and is now kept in the central library in Lucerne.
