Herger (poet)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herger (around 1170) is one of the High Medieval, Middle High German song poets .

In German and edition studies , however, it is controversial whether there ever was a poet named Herger. The three names " Spervogel " / "Herger" / " Der Junge Spervogel " often appear next to each other. Three manuscripts (Die Kleine Heidelberger Liederhandschrift A, the Große Heidelberger Liederhandschrift C and the Jenaer Liederhandschrift J) contain over 90 verse verses to which the names “Spervogel” and “Young Spervogel” are assigned. The name "Herger" comes from one of the Spervogel stanzas (II, 2) as a literary figure, comparable to the poetic addition "von Reuental" by the song writer Neidhart , who was long regarded as a fixed part of the poet's name.
