Heribert Weiland

Heribert Weiland (born July 9, 1942 ) is a German economist .

Weiland studied economics, political science, sociology and history at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the London School of Economics , from which he graduated in 1967 with a diploma. In 1972 he received his doctorate in political science. In 1987/88 he was visiting professor at the University of Kassel and in 1988 at the University of South Africa . From 1980 to 2006 he was managing director and from 2007 to 2013 director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1996 he completed his habilitation and then worked as a private lecturer and associate professor at the University of Freiburg.

Weiland's main research interests are democratic transition and decentralization, education and development, development theory and development policy , especially in southern Africa .

Weiland was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation from 1985 to 1990 .
