Heribert of Laon

Heribert von Laon (also: Charibert ) was Count of Laon and lived in the first half of the 8th century.

His mother was Bertrada the Elder , the daughter of Count Palatine Hugobert from the Hugobertiner family and Irmina von Oeren ; Since Bertrada was the founder of the Prüm Abbey in 721 , he became a co-founder of this institution. Further details about Heribert's family are unclear. Assumptions that Heribert was the son of Martin, a former Count of Laon, and that he married a Merovingian named Gisela of Aquitaine and had a daughter of the same name with her, cannot be considered certain.

His daughter was Bertrada the Younger , the wife of Pippin the Younger , the Frankish housekeeper and later king. This made Heribert von Laon the maternal grandfather of Charlemagne .
