Bertrada the Elder (* 660; † after 721) was the daughter of Count Palatine Hugobert from the family of Hugobertiner and Irmina von Oeren . But it is also discussed that she was the daughter of Theuderich III. and his second wife Amalberga or his third wife Chrodechild could be. Her husband is unknown, her son was Heribert von Laon ; with him as a co-founder she founded the Prüm Abbey in 721 .

Through Heribert's daughter Bertrada the Younger , the wife of Pippin the Younger , the Frankish housekeeper and later king, Bertrada the Elder is one of the great-grandmothers of Charlemagne .

Individual evidence

  1. In the family tree of the Carolingians, Pippinids and Arnulfinger (pdf) a Count Martin von Laon is referred to as Bertrada's husband. In Hlawitschka (see medieval genealogy ), on the other hand, one can read: Nothing is known about Heribert's father or about Heribert's wife and possible siblings.
