Chrodechild (wife of Theuderich III.)
Chrodechild , also named after her grandmother Doda , also known as Chrodechild von Heristal (* around 650 in Heristal , † after May 692), was the Merovingian queen from around 677 to 692.
Her parents were presumably the caretaker Ansegisel and the later canonized Begga . Around 677 she married the King of Neustria Theuderich III. After his death in 690/91, she led for her underage son Clovis III. the reign for at least another year. She is attested for the last time in this function by an interpolated document from May 692. She also had a younger son Childebert III for her husband . born. Possibly she found her final resting place at the side of her husband in the Abbey of Saint-Vaast in Arras .
If the usurper Chlothar IV is included , then no wives of the following six last Merovingian kings are known. Chrodechild is the last Merovingian queen known by name and she seems to have had a certain influence as regent for her underage son Clovis.

Remarks
- ↑ Martina Hartmann ( The Queen in the Early Middle Ages , p. 86) does not consider it completely certain that Chrodechild used the nickname Doda .
