The Herler Mill 2012

The Herler Mühle is a former watermill in Cologne-Buchheim an der Strunde .

history

A first potential reference to a mill in Herl contains a certificate from Konrad II , in which he gave the Deutz Abbey three men and all accessories, whereby "Chapel, serfs of both sexes, areas, buildings, developed and undeveloped lands, fields, fields, Pastures, meadows, forests, forests, hunts, bodies of water, watercourses, fisheries, mills, roads and impasses, exits, earned and sought-after income and all uses that could come from there in any way "are listed. However, this is a classic pertinence formula from which it cannot be concluded that everything that is listed actually existed.

Otto Schenk von Nideggen is mentioned as the owner of the mill in 1584 . In 1744 the councilor and penny master Anton Michael Heister zu Berg bought the mill and leased it to various millers in the following years. From 1786, Johann Wilhelm Kießel, who was a member of the Schleifer cooperative, is named as the tenant. It follows that at that time it was a grinding mill . In 1814 Jakob Ringen the Elder bought it as an oil mill . He had the mill completely rebuilt. Included was a new undershot wooden water wheel . It grew 4 inches larger than the old wheel . From now on it was a flour mill . The mill remained in the possession of the Ringen family and their heirs for 150 years. In 1895 the wooden wheel was replaced by an iron water wheel. The mill continued to grind grain until after World War II . After the architect Nikolaus Rosiny acquired the property in 1960 and subjected it to extensive restoration, there are still apartments and business premises in the former mill today.

monument

Since June 13, 1984, the former watermill has been registered as a historical building in accordance with Section 2, Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Monument Protection Act (DschG NW).
