Cologne-Buchheim ( Kölsch Bochem ) is a district on the right bank of the Rhine in Cologne in the Mülheim district .

Location and boundary line

Buchheim borders in the east on Holweide , in the south on Höhenberg , in the west on Buchforst and in the northwest and in the north on Mülheim .

The borders are in the east the Autobahn 3 , in the south the B 55 a , in the west the railway line along Germaniastraße and Ackerstraße and in the north the railway line to Bergisch Gladbach .

St. Mauritius Church in Buchheim

A parish church was mentioned in Buchheim as early as 1160. Other sources indicate settlement as early as the Carolingian times .

1663 was the Wasserburg Herl built. A park with the St. Johann Nepomuk chapel was created in the 18th century. Politically, Buchheim has belonged to the Porz office in the Duchy of Berg since the Middle Ages . In 1795 French troops occupied Buchheim. In 1808 Mairie Merheim was established, to which Buchheim also belonged. The Mairie Merheim was part of the canton of Mülheim in the Rhine department . Since 1815, Bucheim has belonged to the mayor's office in Merheim in the Mülheim district in the Kingdom of Prussia . On April 1, 1914, Buchheim was incorporated into Cologne.

In 1896, today's Catholic Church of St. Mauritius was built (neo-Gothic). It is the successor to the Alt St. Mauritius Chapel (today the Sonderburger Strasse cemetery chapel), and in 1961/62 the Protestant Kreuzkirche. The Christian-Islamic Society is located in the former rectory next to the St. Mauritius Church .

Mills on the round

Of the numerous mills on the Strunde that used their water power, there were two mills in Buchheim, namely the Herler mill , which is still equipped with a water wheel, and the Buchheimer mill , which was demolished in 1910.

In Cologne-Buchheim there are also company apartments of the cable manufacturer Felten & Guilleaume , which became known from 1991 through the Fussbroich family and were the main location in this first German documentary soap .
