Herman Doomer , actually Hermann Dommers , (* around 1595 in Anrath , † 1650 in Amsterdam ) was a German - Dutch cabinet maker and father of the painter Lambert Doomer .

Doomer settled in Amsterdam in 1613 and married Baertje Martens, with whom he had nine children, including the painter Lambert Doomer . He specialized in the processing of ebony and mainly made picture frames, which he delivered to the artist Rembrandt van Rijn , among others . Around 1640 he ordered two portraits of himself and his wife from Rembrandt, which are currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg . His son Lambert was initially trained as a cabinet maker, but continued his training with Rembrandt and eventually became a painter .
