Hermenegildus Felix Victor Maria (Herman) Finkers (born December 9, 1954 in Almelo ) is one of the most famous Dutch cabaret artists of the 1980s and 1990s, who is still on stage today. He comes from the east of the country, the Twente region , and presents a timeless, dry sense of humor in shows with imaginative stage elements.

Life and art

Finkers attended high school in Almelo and studied in Groningen, where his brother Wilfried had founded a student humor association. There Herman Finkers played his first program.

The former altar boy has remained loyal to his church and region. He composed a traditional mass for his wedding. He looks after a small chapel, which he has been campaigning for since 2006 in an initiative he co-founded.

In 2000 Finkers stopped working as a cabaret artist because he lacked inspiration. Shortly afterwards, he found out about his leukemia. In 2007 he appeared again with a new program, Na de pauze (German: "After the break").

Finkers, who likes puns, usually plays a modest, somewhat awkward, calm and cheerful bachelor. He doesn't speak a dialect, but still has a distinct regional coloring. His brother is often involved in his programs, both behind and on stage. Finkers has worked with Brigitte Kaandorp a number of times ; a comical singing duo of the two with the title Duet hit the Dutch charts in 1990. In 2003 Finkers was made Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

The writer Finkers also deals with the dialect of his homeland, the Twents , and translated the dialogues for the soap opera Van Jonge Leu en Oale Groond .
