Herman GB Teule

Herman GB Teule (* 1948 ) is a Dutch orientalist .

Life

He studied theology, Semitic languages ​​and religious studies at the University of Amsterdam , the Roman Catholic Theological University of Amsterdam and the KU Leuven . He is currently head of the Institute for Eastern Christian Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen , professor emeritus in the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies at the same university and emeritus associate professor (Department of History of the Church and Theology) in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven. He was visiting professor at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam , and the Theological Faculty of St. Tychon University in Moscow .

His research area is the interaction between the religious and cultural world of Middle Eastern Christianity and Islam, especially during the so-called Syrian Renaissance (12th – 14th centuries), the influence of the Latin missionaries on the theological developments of the early Chaldean Church and the modern developments in today's churches of the Middle East. He is a consultor of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in Rome and the Pro Oriente Foundation ( Vienna ) and a member of the editorial board of several international scientific journals and series on Eastern Christianity.
